Spotting Guide

Use all purpose spotter you received from First Choice Flooring when your flooring was installed. If you need a refill or don’t have a bottle call or visit us.

  1. Pre-test spotter in inconspicuous area to test for colorfastness.
  2. Remove excess materials by absorbing liquids and gently scraping semi-solids.
  3. Mist spotter onto affected area and blot with clean, dry towels.
  4. Gently agitate area with towel as necessary. (Repeat steps 2-4)
  5. When dry, brush the pile gently.

These next 3 formulas can be used if the all-purpose spotter does not remove the spot adequately.

  1. Types of stains: Oily foodstuffs, including coffee, mustard, tea, soft drinks, beer, wine, vomit, urine, excrement.
    • 2/3 cup water
    • One tablespoon mild carpet detergent
    • 1/3 cup white vinegar
  2. Types of stains: Starches, sugars and foodstuffs, such as egg, milk, blood, candy, ice cream, chocolate, sugar stains, salad dressing.
    • One cup water
    • One tablespoon mild carpet detergent
    • Two tablespoons ammonia
  3. Types of stains: Heavy grease and oil, including gum, oil, tar, inks, wax, butter, grease, household cement.
    • Non-flammable dry cleaning solvent

When Spotting…

  • Don’t saturate the carpet with spotting agent. This can cause the spot to migrate.
  • Don’t use overly aggressive scrubbing action on the carpet. This can drive the spot deeper into the carpet and/or damage carpet fiber. Use gentle agitation.
  • Applying layers of clean towels over the area cleaned and weighing down with books until dry can help absorb excess liquids.
  • Pre-test spotter in inconspicuous area to test for colorfastness.

Note: If the spot does not come out using the suggestions above, call us. We have professional carpet cleaners we can recommend. Many homeowners put cleaning agents on their carpet to remove stains. Often these cleaning agents become more of a problem than the original stain.
